What is fire cement used for?
We recommend the use of fire cement in place of the traditional gun injectable mortar when you are using brick slips on applications subject to extreme heat. Such examples include log burning stoves.
KOS Fire Cement is a ready mixed blend that sets when it is exposed to heat. The resulting mortar is temperature resistant up to 1250°C.
It can be used for domestic and commercial applications, for installation and repair work. See our accessories page for our line of Fire Cerment.

Benefits of using KOS cement
This product is very easy to apply and you can use directly from tub or the handy gun injectable cartridge.
If using from the tub, initially you can soften with a small amount of water if required. Then, work well into the joints.
How long does it take for fire cement to dry?
On average it takes around 12 hours to dry out.
After applying, gradually increase heat over a 4 hour period. Make good any cracks which may form with fresh cement to form a smoke tight seal.

I have a 12 kw wood burning stove. I will be putting the brick slips behind the stove. there is a gap of about 3″. Yes it gets hot but not excessive. Do I need fire cement for the mortar joints or will the standard be ok. I would like to use standard cement as it is a large fireplace with inglenooks so I will be ordering about 8 sq meters. I want to use the same mortar throughout. Also is the adhesive ok for these bricks behind the stove
Hi Edward, You’d be perfectly fine with the 3″ gap to use any mortar you wish. I will advice however that you might incur hairline cracks over the years from the constant warm to cold cycles, this is why we recommend the fire cerment.
