Tiger Works, Sheffield – Initial Project
Lambeth Mixture brick slips for a pure rich and open brickwork look.
Our Lambeth brick slips takes up permanent residency at this Sheffield hot spot.
The tradition and heritage of the public house and bar within Sheffield and the surrounding areas such as Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster is rich and steeped in history.
There was once a day when you couldn’t walk more than 100 yards within south Yorkshire without finding yourself at the doorway of one of its many public houses.
Famous for the “Full Monty” , “steel” and off course ” Prince Nazeem”, it seems fitting that when one of Sheffield’s most prestigious and well appointed social venues Tiger Works decides to decorate then the gloves really do come off.
Rich in open brick work, amber lighting, timber cladding and social interaction it is a theme that many try to recreate but fail.
At Tiger Works traditional and modern design is firmly what that set out to achieve.
The bar is known locally for its professional bartenders, atmosphere that suits all moods and tastes, VIP areas that allow its clients to relax and socialise in private and off course a modern and well decorated interior.
Design
From the starting line its obvious that the designers brief was to develop and create a smart city centre bar with aall the attributes of a crisp and modern stylized interior but keeping the traditional twists and a warm hospitable theme that the pubs of Yorkshire are so used too.
Brick slips and exposed brick work offer the venue its most prominent design feature visible from any vantage point through the establishment.
The brick slips strike through the venue in the way a tree would grow through an abandoned potting shed ” A Yorkshire potting shed off course”.
They grow up through the main room in the form of brick clad pillars which are carefully illuminated by a warm traditional lighting scheme.
The centerpiece of the renovation is a never ending infinite bar showcasing a striking and modern bar top coupled with a simple basic fascia.
The lights and industrial shelving behind the bar area are backlit by the colourful illuminations from the optics and pumps, and ever so additionally assisted by the vintage warm glow from the lights above.
By deciding to use the Lambeth brick slips within this installation the interior has been graced with a mixture of rustic and contemporary design elements.
A material palette which comes mainly from natural influences, wooden floors and table tops give a sense of earthy wonderment that brings life to a simple design.
The choice of this design scheme especially for a prominent Sheffield bar is true to the roots of the people of Sheffield and of the locality and history of the city itself.
Product
There are many brick slips that would have been suitable for this interior brick cladding.
Reclaim bricks and even white brick slips would have suited this installation. The Olde watermill brick slip or the Olde Bayswater would have also been close front runners for the installation.
The choice to use the Lambeth brick slip was perfect in the end , this is a brick that has a varied colour tone that ranges from yellows dark oranges and reds. The red bricks within the blend
have infrequent ash hews and colourings that lend themselves perfectly for this installation.
Brick slip corners or pistols as they are sometimes known have been used extensively throughout the bar area and on the main pillars giving the illusion of large brick supports holding up the ceiling.
The installers have pointed the brick slips with our natural white pointing mortar and kept the pointing as rustic as possible again reinforcing the old weathered and antiqued look.
There isn’t a single are throughout this installation that doesn’t benefit for the great realism that the Lambeth brick slips bring to the Tiger Works venue.
A fitting choice and well matched in every aspect.
Result

The installation from concept to design through to installation has delivered.
We would like to think that the Lambeth brick slip gives this great venue the earthy and natural feel it set out to achieve.
