”This week we are looking at glazed brick slips, box sizes, pointing and application!”
Its that time again, Ask Andy is the go to place for those questions that your sure you need the answers too.
Its been a busy few months and it seems this blog is helping a lot of hungry brick slip information seekers.
This month the top questions which you are desperately seeking the answers to are as follows…
Can your brick slips be used inside and outside?
This may seem like a silly question. We get asked this more that 10 times a day and the answer is YES, YES , YES.
Our brick slips are expertly cut from real clay bricks, they offer the same qualities as brick. As long as they are installed safely and using the correct adhesive and mortar our brick slips work perfect inside and out.
The amazing thing about our products is they wont fade like concrete. They wont crumble like plaster and faux. They wont peel like resin or plastic. The brick slips we supply are as hard wearing as the brick they were cut from.
Similar to glazed brick slips, our products are hard wearing and robust.
Do I have to point my brick slips?
Traditionally you have to point brick slips as you would have to point a brick wall.
This does not mean you have to be traditional. The benefits of using a pointing mortar after you have installed your slips are.
- Pointing your wall with hide any irregularities with the adhesive underneath.
- Jointing provides extra stability and joins the whole structure together.
- Easier to clean and dust internal installations.
- Adding a joint weather protects the brick slips from water ingress.
- Highly decorative and can effect the overall look depending on colour and striking.
These reasons do not mean that it is imperative. Many modern installations benefit from a joint free look. Leaving the gaps can make each individual brick slip stand out and can bring a crisp look to the wall.
I want to order lots of boxes, can you send them in crates instead?
Yes we can! Whilst our half meter boxes of brick slips offer the most convenient way to manhandle the product. We appreciate that large quantities can be more convenient crated.
Want your order crated? call our office to arrange this prior to dispatch.
Do you offer Glazed brick slips?
Glazed brick slips are not part of our range and are currently not a product which we readily supply. We can custom cut and order any glazed product but this would be done on an order by order basis. Give us a call on 0844 567 8811 for more information and one of our team will help.
How many brick slips do I need per square meter?
This may seem like a silly question but numbers can be confusing to the best of us. Most of our brick slips are sold per half square meter. There are 30 brick slips to a half square meter and 60 brick slips to a full square meter.
For every square meter of wall coverage you will require two boxes of brick slips.

Hi, we are starting a project to cover our existing outside bricks. We have a old 1930’s semi which has a metre high brick wall before the render starts. In order to meet the driveway we need to apply brick slips below the damp course, is there any issue with doing this? Thanks
Hi Jackie, This isn’t a problem at all, you just need to apply the same damp proof course to the brick slips. What that involves is a DPC at the same level between the slips as your existing DPC on your brickwork to ensure that the water can’t creep up the brick slips. I hope that helps.
Hi Andy,
I was wondering, if you use this method opposed to normal bricks, which trade would you use? Brickies or Tilers, or Skilled Labourers?
Also how many sq M per day would you expect the tradesperson to lay (including pointing and tidying up)?
Just trying to work out its cost effectiveness
Hi Mark, I’ll step in for Andy on this one (Hope you don’t mind). We would recommend a quote from each however tilers are more skilled at the laying, and brickies are better skilled at the pointing. So it’s 50/50. You will find that most tilers are absolutely fine with the pointing, its each to their own though.
With regards to cost, location is key here. We don’t know the costs of your local tradesperson unfortunately as we’re the manufacturer/supplier. So if you ask around for some quotes, you’ll soon see the rate of install for your area.
I Hope that helps!
Regards, Dan.
Hi, can your brick slips be used on a concrete base for a driveway for 2 cars?
Hi
I am sorry but brick slips are not suitable for driveways.
Kind Regards
Andy
Hi Andy,
1. Which slips would I need for an inside corner?
2. For an internal wall for a gas fire chamber, can slips be stuck directly onto breeze block, or do they need to be attached to a board?
Thanks, Andy!!!
Hi Andy. I am rendering a 90s brick house. Can I use blue brick slips for the 2 course plinth down to ground level to give a nice finish? I assume the stop bead on the render will act as a dpc for the slips??
Can brick slips be installed over damp course. I’ve had old render removed from block walls and k-rended. The damp course looks really rough. I wanted brick effect on damp course can this be done?
Can brick slips be installed over damp course. I’ve had render removed from breeze blocks and redone with k-rend. The damp course looks really rough and hence that’s why I wish to have brick slip effect
Hi,
When installing the slips below and above dpc how would a dpc be added? Would I have to rake out under existing dpc and under lap a new dpc or is there a trim I can get?
Thanks
Pep
I have a wall separating us from our neighbours with our driveway higher than theirs can I brickslip said wall without the worry of the brick slips falling off due to damp
