Welcome to Ask Andy, the go to place for those questions that you might need the answers too. This month top questions are featured below:
1.Do brick slips come on a backing board?
Do brick slips come on a backing board? Our products don’t and for good reason.
The products we manufacture are all individual tile units. Our brick slips are all made from clay and can be applied like any other tile using similar installation methods.
To take a look at how our brick slips are installed please see our install guide.
Although we do not manufacture or supply backing boards if this is something which you wish to use then all of our products can be used on various brick slip tracking systems. For more information on do brick slips come on a backing board please give us a call and ask to speak with one of our technical team.
2.Can you have a feature wall in a bedroom?
Yes off-course you can have a feature wall in the bedroom. Often the bedroom is one of the most overlooked rooms in the house.
Brick slip feature walls work great in a bedroom, helping to break up colour schemes and creating an interesting back canvas.
The bedroom is a room that usually harbors a great deal of soft furnishings, it can be given equilibrium with the presence of a brick slip feature wall.
3. Do your brick slip products fade?
Unlike some brick slip products, brick slips cut and made from fired clay will not fade. When clay is baked any colourings within the clay are fired into the brick at over 1200 degrees.
If over time the colour of the brick slip changes, this is more likely due to atmospheric conditions and weathering.
Soot, ash and dirt can all affect the colour of brick but can always be removed with a cleaner.
4. Do you offer a brick cutting service?
Yes, as a manufacturer we offer a full end to end brick cutting service. Our service includes collection of bricks, cutting service, boxing/ crating of brick slips and delivery back to our customers.
We are able to offer a full report on cutting capabilities and yield.
We can also cut large format and special sized bricks.
5. What is mortar?
When building and constructing using masonry products, mortar is the principle binding material that is used to bond brick work together.
Brick slips can be installed without the need for mortar or a mortar joint. Using mortar with brick slips will always make the surface structure more stable.
Traditional sand and cement mortar is almost always used to hold brick or stone together. When you install brick slips the same material can be used to grout the brick slips. Grouting is done by piping in the mortar using a Mortar pointing gun.
Using traditional mortars when installing brick slips does have its drawbacks. Colour consistency can be difficult to obtain for the reason that sands vary somewhat.
Consequently pre mixed pointing mortar is often recomended when pointing brick slips, the finish of this product is consistent and uniform.
