BAR 7 Nightclub, Newton Abbott
Sandalwood brick slips showing just how versatile they can be.
Introduction
A recent refit of the Bar 7 bar and night club in Newton Abbott has thrown one of our most delicate looking brick slips, the sandalwood into the spot light quite literally.
As well as serving Newton Abbott with delicious refreshments they also boast a new and glorious installation of our sandalwood brick slips.
Design
The design process for bars and night clubs is not one that follows the usual pattern of thought.
Night clubs and bars operate and exist often in another realm, one of darkness, intoxication and loud external stimuli. Go big, go bold and keep it simple is a statement that often goes a long way in dark and low lit environments.
An install which has to centre around people having a good time, people meeting people and people being entertained. Lights textures and themes are key in the design of this illuminating bar and drinking establishment.
The designers chose to use the sandalwood brick slips as the primary wall covering.
The lightly coloured and textured brick slips have been woven into the scheme seamlessly. The brick slip cladding acts as a mirror and canvas for light to be reflected.
Neon blues, pinks and purples cascade from the radiant array of LED lighting which has been sybiantly born into this design. The light reflects off the sandalwood brick slips in the same way sunlight reflects from a lake, working like mirrors amplifying its clientele mood and experience.
The modern design elements, such as the exposed industrial ceiling offer a visual contrast against the exposed brick slip clad wall.
This case study is a triumphant example of how a simple engaging and energetic scheme can balance the use of simple building materials and modern executions.
Product
The choice to use sandalwood brick slips within this design was fair and wise, the brick slip itself absorbs tones and light subtleties in a magnificent way. The texture of this brick tile is not too heavy but yet has just enough undulation on the surface to allow the lights to permeate the surface.
The installation of the slips across the bar area in conjunction with the dark steel and wooden strikes a certain ying and yang which works beautifully. This particular installation was pointed and completed with the use of the natural white pointing mortar, a perfect partner for the sandalwood brick slips.
Final Result
Simply put the designers thought process has been laid bare and left out for all to see by the end result of this great bar re-fit. We often see ever more flamboyant and increasingly intricate designs using and incorporating brick slips. It can be hard to visualize how they fall within a simple installation and how effective they can be under different lighting sources.
Bar 7 have certainly served up a tasty and refreshing installation of sandalwood brick slips.
