Welcome to Ask Andy, the go to place for those questions that you might need the answers too.
This month top questions are featured below:
Can you have a feature wall in living room?
Yes you can have a feature wall in living room.
The living room is one of the most popular locations in the household for using brick slips.
A brick slip feature wall in a living room can help to lift the warmth and break up the furnishings that make up the room.
Brick slips are traditional in appearance making them a perfect choice for a living room fireplace or chimney breast.
How much adhesive do I need?
Based on a 20kg bag of Rapid setting adhesive at a notched trowel depth of 6mm.
One bag of adhesive would cover an approximate brick slip area of 5m2.
Meaning every square meter would require 4kg of dry adhesive product.
Calculations are based on best case conditions.
The overall product coverage will be less on uneven walls. This is because the product is also being used as a levelling compound.
Although a general rule of calculation can be applied, the quantity of adhesive required really does depend on the overall quality of the substrate.
How do I clean brickwork?
The easiest and safest way to clean any brick work is with warm water and a mild detergent.
Ensure that all debris and surface dust is brushed off before applying the cleaning solution.
This is a general cleaning method and will work for most scenarios.
Specialist cleaning would be needed for grease, paint, cement staining or surface growth.
How are brick slips made?
Real brick slips are made by expertly cutting the decorative face from a clay brick to create a tile.
Cutting is either done using a diamond saw blade or water jet depending on the properties of the brick.
Brick slips can also be purpose made using clays, concrete, plaster or any other composite product.

How is it best to apply brick slips around a door recess? Can ‘corner’ slips be supplied for the top returns, as well as the side?
Hi Paul
We would always advise tiling out from the return that way you can use a full corner brick slip as a starting point. Corners can be used as a soldier top return or you can use our stretcher reveals. Either would work just fine.

How much do brickslips weigh per m2?
Can they be used on stud walls?
Thank you
Hi Teresa
Most brickslips weigh between 20-25kg per m2 once installed. They can be used on stud walls providing the wall is structurally sound and can hold that weight.
