Kitchen Installation – Snap Shot
Having a bare kitchen wall as a surface to work with offers little in limitations. This great project shows just what can be achieved using brick slips for a brick feature wall.
To compliment this stylish and modern kitchen renovation our customer decided to make a 3D feature of the cooking area. Designing a pillared alcove over the cooker created the perfect mount for the cooker hood.
Using one of our most loved products the Lambeth Mixture brick slips
How our customer achieved this?
Using the dimensions of the brick slips our customer planned the pillar feature to allow for minimum wastage.
Ply boxing – A plywood boxing was created using timber supports and 10mm ply wood. The boxing and size was created allowing for the feature to run to the nearest brick and half brick. By doing this our customer achieved the best possible look for the feature.
Corner slips – Brick slip corners were used to create the pilars, due to the 3D aspect of the corner slips when installed they give the desired illusion of real brick being used.
Stretcher reveals – Above the cooker extractor stretcher reveals were used to keep the flow of bricks and illusion going. Working to a 5 brick wide opening meant that this was executed perfectly with no cuts or issues.
Pva Bond – Prior to gluing on the brick slips, PVA bond was brushed onto the substrate timber surface. This process seals the wood and stops the timber from drawing moisture out of the adhesive. Allowing for a much stronger bond.
Pointing – Mortar pointing was completed once the brick slips had fully set onto the wall. By using gun injected mortar our customer pointed the wall both quickly and efficiently. This particular project was pointed using our Natural white pointing mortar.
Post installation, decorative splash back tiles were installed to knit the brickwork to the cooking area.

Would you apply the brick slips before or after kitchen installation? Many thanks.
Hi Clare, You can do it either way, most people already have their kitchen installed. Only considerations are, if you do it before you can align the height of the raised kitchen cupboards to match the brick slip mortar lines. I hope that helps. Dan.
