In Depth
As with most of our brick slips the Olde Bayswater is crafted and cut from traditional handmade bricks. Our Olde Bayswater brick slips are so authentic they can be found in buildings and on walls throughout the UK.
This classic slip is commonly used to renovate and recreate the look of a classic old red brick. The artistic antique beauty of the Olde Bayswater Blend is one that has been developed and honed over many decades. The authenticity and character of this particular brick slip is one that has not been created by accident.
Historic methods and production techniques that date back over 1000 years have been fully implemented in the manufacture of this brick. To produce this overwhelmingly unique brick slip we have to look at the brick itself to get a true sense of its birth.
The red clay is carefully prepared by soaking and kneading the clay by hand to form a stiff mass. Made from a mass of clay just a little bigger than required, and throwing it into a mould. The quality of the brick is always determined by the consistency of the clay and the skill of the master moulder.
The clay used for our Olde Bayswater is usually about 25% water by weight. When moulding these exquisite bricks, sand is thrown into the mould to act as both a lubricant for the form and features on the brick. By forming the bricks in old traditional mould, the use of old timber moulds imparts distinctive and noticeable folds.
The bricks that our Olde Bayswater Brick slips are cut from are produced in the exact way they were over a century ago.
