Ask Andy is the go to place for those brick slip wall questions.
Every week we Ask Andy is inundated with emails and telephone calls asking about the advantages of brick slips.
We love to answer all your questions and though we would summarise what we tell our customers.
1 – Brick slips look identical to full bricks
In the past brick slips were only purpose made and were not very adventurous in design. In days gone by distinguishing full bricks from brick slips used to be easy. Great news is that today with machinery and technology we are now able to cut almost anything.
Our brick slips are made 100% from real clay bricks, this ensures the texture colour and aesthetic is kept identical to the brick.
The only noticeable difference is that brick slips are thin at approximately 20mm.
2 – Brick slips are lightweight and space saving
Because we only take off the front face of the brick the product is extremely light weight, approximately 30kg pm2.
Brick slips are very easy to work with and can allow for complex and intricate designs that wouldn’t normally be possible.
They can be installed on almost any surface, as long as the substrate is structurally sound and can bear the weight then brick slips can be installed.
3 – In most cases a cheaper alternative to full bricks
One of the most appealing advantages of brick slips is that they are much more affordable as a DIY product than full bricks.
Like for like on equivalent handmade bricks costs are cheaper and installation does not require large scale construction which can incur significant costs.
4 – Easy to install, a great DIY Product
If you are a budding DIY enthusiast there is no better product than brick slips to test your skills. Brick slips are far easier to install that most people think.
Applied like a conventional tile using rapid setting tile adhesive and brick slip spacers a wall can be faced in no time. Once the adhesive has cures it can be pointed using a gun injection pointing mortar. This whole process is pain free and can be completed with ease.
