Installing our handmade brick slips can be a little different to installing a standard tile. Whilst the principles are the same there are things which need to be considered before installation.
Here are some pieces of advice we give to our customers everyday, these are great tips to read before starting your handmade brick slips installation.
Read up on installation first
You should make sure you or your installer read our brick slip installation guide.
Our guide provides detailed information that is specific to installing brick slips and can save you on making any pitfall decisions.
Handmade Brick slips are perfectly imperfect
We do many different product ranges, some products and engineered, some handmade and some machined.
Products which are tumbled and given a worn look such as our Olde Bayswater Blend, Olde Watermill and New Sandalwood are rarely perfect in dimension.
These products will vary and may have chips and knocks. Fear not though as this is all part of the products charm and character. Once these have been installed they exhibit the look and feel which is intended.
You should also keep in mind that the samples you order will not be exactly the same as the final product you receive. This is because each batch of brick slips is completely unique from the next, and colour variation will always occur. You can learn more about colour variation on our Differences in Colour Blog.
Plan for cuts and breakages
One of the main things to factor in when planning a brick slip installation is cuts and breakages. Please keep this in mind when it comes to installation because you need to plan your project accordingly. It is your responsibility to check the area and measurements before you order.
Check and factor in differences in wall height and brick bond patterns as these all affect the amount of brick slips needed for installation.
Order a min of 5% more than what you think you need. Re-orders often end up costing extra money and time, and because there is always the chance of variation in our brick slips a new batch may be slightly different. Especially if a fair amount of time has lapsed.
