Shining a light on the Sun Inn
If you were to close your eyes and think of the quintessential British pub you wouldn’t be on your own thinking of. Large open fireplaces, timber furniture, traditional style bar area.
Walls with plenty of images and pictures of days gone by. All in all your mental oil painting would be of a comforting and warming place to socialise and relax.
Well, it seems the Sun Inn at Retford took those dreams and made them a reality.
Design
The Sun Inn has the charm and character of a traditional country pub with an elegant, contemporary interior. Open fire pit, Airstream bar in our garden , reclaimed-floors and surprising modern twists at every turn.
The great plus point within this eclectic design is the use of our Olde Bayswater Brick slips. The great thing the designers did when incorporating them within the design is split the style.
You have a wonderful welcome wall which is backed by a colourful feature wall canvass in standard brick bond pattern.
In the centre of the design is a commanding and traditional style open fireplace built with our Olde Bayswater Brick slips. The size and substance of this great feature brings huge dominance to the room. One can only wonder at how amazing this area would be on a cold winters night.
A stark contrast from the traditional use of brick slips to a fun and colourful modern wall. This area adjacent to the bar sports a vintage Coca Cola machine and brick slips laid in herringbone pattern.
The designers chose to create this area with a vintage modern twist which plays to the whole vibe and feel of the establishment.
Product
Distressed and traditional the choice of brick slip couldn’t have been better. Olde Bayswater Blend brick slips can command a room and can bring a sense of deep warmth and history. These brick slips look great dotted in and about this fun and comforting pub floor plan.This project saw the installers use a rapid set tile adhesive to fix the brick slips to the wall surface.
Pointing was achieved using gun injected pointing mortar.
On projects such as this it is always advisable that gun injected mortar is used for speed and appearance. Bringing a rich cottage country feel the red clay balances out the light areas of the room, this is a huge testament to the Olde Bayswater blend brick slips.
Results
The Sun Inn Pub & Kitchen has been one of the most enlightening examples of our Olde Bayswater brick slips being used within a public house setting.
The design and care that was taken in using our products, both allowing them to be unassuming and also giving them a certain spotlight is a credit to the entire Sun Inn project.
