Residential Kitchen Diner – UK
Did somebody say pointing mortar?
One of the greatest things about real clay brick slips is the versatility of the product. Modern homes are now built for eco efficiency, space saving and speed of erection. One of the saddest aspects of new house building is that the internal walls can lack character and flair.
The days of brick inner walls are long gone, with builders now using eco lite blocks and plasterboards. These materials are great but what if you want to have a traditional characterful look.
This residential case study is a shining example of how a normal sized and looking kitchen can be transformed with great light, colour and texture.
Design
The allure and romantic fascination of how real our brick slips look is a common attraction. This Shaker style kitchen looks fitting within this modern home.
Realistic and convincing, our customer decided that this wonderful kitchen project had to have a real brick slip feature wall.
With a rustic warm red brick in mind our customer chose to use the Olde Watermill brick slip.
One of the most interesting things about this great design is the use of lighting. The natural light and down light from the cabinets makes the walls look totally different under which ever light is present.
Mixing modern colours and designs with traditional textured brick work has lifted the whole atmosphere of the room. The breakfast island sits in front of a rich coloured backdrop which makes the whole area pop with energy.
Product
Whether it’s a modern shaker kitchen or a rural country kitchen the Olde Watermill brick slip offers a tone and texture that is fitting both internally and externally.
Modern kitchens really do stand out when given the weathered look of an old red brick.
There are few products that we can say don’t look out of place in any application and the Olde Watermill is certainly one of them.
The customer chose the Olde Watermill due to its rustic and worn appearance, this aesthetic has proven popular over recent years and is the perfect alternative to boring standard kitchen tiles.
Application
One interesting facet to this case study is the choice of having no mortar. This may sound like an odd choice but this method of installation is becoming more and more common. The absence of mortar in the 10mm joint allows the brick slips to exhibit a much more 3 dimensional look when projecting from the wall. If the adhesive is applied well as it is in this example the whole thing works great.
Creating a cobbled effect with mo mortar is a fantastic way of enhancing a feature wall installation.
Result
A fantastic and creative case study which showcases the warmth and versatility of real clay brick slips.
The design and care that was taken in using our products, allowing them to be centre stage and creating a very attractive home space.
