Perky Nel – London, UK
Sit back, relax and take in this stunningly executed brick slip installation!
Public houses of the past are now all but gone, a new population of trendy design conscious young adults have sprouted.
This new generation have elevated socially orientated drinking way beyond the traditional norm. 21st Century venues now need to do more than serve food and drinks, they need to inspire. Most importantly they need to create an acceptable backdrop for the new selfie obsessed generation.
This case study, takes a look at the Perky Nel in London, Situated in a popular area of London renowned for its eateries and vibrant nightlife.
Designing a beautiful traditional pub to modern standards with a designer edge is no easy feat. This wonderful exterior and interior oozes plentiful character. The designers have managed to create the perfect place to while away an afternoon and watch the world go by.
As with many pubs and bars natural materials feature heavily within this design. Exposed brick work feature both our Lambeth Mixture and London Reclaimed Stock brick slips. Alongside the timber bar and low lit lighting the textures create a very homely and comforting feel.
Through the daytime large curtained windows allow natural light to illuminate the eating area. The use of mirrored picture frames adds to the illusion of extra space and forms a great way for diners to keep track of whats happening within the room.
A rustic copper topped bar showing expert patina, and the inclusion of parque flooring cladding behind the bar is both inspired and high on trend.
The room exudes an embrionic feel, and like with a lot of old buildings things change throughout the decades. Extensions and additions mean that the brick work would undoubtedly be different from different eras.
The great thing about this installation is that the designers have stayed true to that.
By using two different brick slip types, the exposed brick slip walls have an even greater note of authenticity. The slips were installed using our Rapid setting tile adhesive and pointed up post installation using light grey pointing mortar.
An authentic and traditional pub with a modern twist, the Perky Nel has character and has feel. This establishment knows no pretense, it has been designed to offer comfort and ease. Somewhere to lose track of time and catch up with friends.
We would like to think that our brick slips add ambiance and realty to this lovely building.(Larger images are available to the right side of this page)
