Detailed Answer – How are brick slips made?
Real brick slips are made by expertly cutting the decorative face from a clay brick to create a tile.
Cutting is either done using a diamond saw blade or water jet depending on the properties of the brick.
Brick slips can also be purpose made using clays, concrete, plaster or any other composite product.
Cut brick slips
Cut brick slips much like the ones that we manufacture are cut from either reclaimed or handmade bricks. The bricks are cut using special machinery which takes off the face of the brick leaving the back of the brick separate. This method of manufacture uses recycled water and all waste products are recycled into aggregate and hardcore.
Water Jet Cut Brick Slips
Water jets fire a steady and solid stream of water at intensely high pressure. The process acts as a super fast erosion and cuts the products cleanly and highly accurately.
Water jets are used on very hard bricks including ceramic and large format blocks.
Purpose made
Purpose made brick slips are manufactured usually in moulds and can be made from a variety of different products including plaster, concrete, resin and plastic.
