This brick fireplace installation is a great example of how customers use our brick slips and how they work in a room with ease. They are a beautiful feature, and really do provide focus to a room.

Brick fireplaces are always a massive draw for designers. They feature in nearly all interior design literature. The character and traditional elements provide a homely and warm feeling.

Unfortunately modern homes rarely come with traditional brick fireplaces. Due mostly to the improvements of energy efficiency and central heating within new build homes nowadays.

But don’t fret. You can recreate this in your home with ease! Brick slips are an amazingly versatile way to achieve a brick look without the headache of building an actual fire.

Brick Fireplace Installation – Olde Bayswater Brick slips

Use of an existing alcove for the fire. Firstly, the installer built out from this alcove using timber. The timber is securely fixed to the wall using screws and fixings, to allow for the width and length of the brick slips and to eliminate any short cuts.

In the second step the timber frame is clad using a 12.5mm plasterboard which is securely fixed to the timber. The plasterboard gives a solid level surface to adhere the brick slips onto. Allowances for the board size are made to allow for a one and a half brick wide pillar either side, minimising cuts.

A level timber is in place as a guide to start to install the brick slips. There are no right or wrong places to start installation. This installer chose to install from the full brick upward of the fire. This is very wise as it allows for a much more believable installation.

Once the top section is cured the installer works down the pillars and leaves any lateral cutting to be done on the bottom course. This is often a wise decision as you can hide any half brick etc lower down.

This installation is adhered with Rapid setting adhesive and is pointed using our natural white pointing mortar.

The finished result of this small installation looks a treat.
